The Running Man
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Expectation: 🙈
Reality: 🙈😆😮😱
If you like The Hunger Games or Netflix’s Squid Game, I suspect you’ll like The Running Man. It follows Ben (Glen Powell), who is unable to afford medicine for his daughter, so he joins a game show to earn some cash. Then he gets forced into a different show in which contestants try to make it 30 days without being killed by the show’s hired assassin squad.
I love The Hunger Games but quit Squid Game after the first episode. Quite frankly, I’m unsettled by how well this subject matter (ya know, live streaming murder…😕) works. But it does, and I found The Running Man very entertaining.
Glen Powell has been workkkin, keep it up, sir!
I was in the second I saw the interracial couple 🥺😍
All the performances are great, the script is solid, and the pacing is good. I think the only place I feel like The Running Man struggles at times is the tone. IMDb lists the top genres as Conspiracy Thriller and Dark Comedy, which I think is accurate, but some parts were so ridiculous I wasn’t on edge or laughing I was just like 😐 okay, let’s move on, this totally took me out of it. These moments were few and far between which is why I only knocked off a star.
Overall, solid flick.
If you see it — come back and let me know on my contact page. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
