Wicked: For Good
⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
Expectation: 😭
Reality: 🥺
Like with the stage production, I’ve always preferred Act 1 because I like all but one song in Act 1 and I only like 2 songs in Act 2.
The story of Wicked (Act 1) is more fun than Wicked: For Good (Act 2) so I found parts of this film boring in comparison and I was itching to get to my favorite song. It feels like a let down, but that’s how I’ve always felt with Act 2 seeing the musical, that there’s all this anticipation and fun and at intermission I’m so excited for it to continue but then as Act 2 goes on I’m ready to leave and it leaves me unsatisfied.
Which is maybe the point?
In any case, it does not take away from how amazing it is.
I won’t be singing the new songs in the shower, but I like them and they fit the film perfectly.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are simply magic together. They gave their who hearts and souls.
I would’ve liked a hell of a lot more Johnny Bailey but beggers can’t be choosers.
I am forever in awe of what Jon Chu as achieved here. Both films are absolutely breathtaking.
Everything is seamless from the music to the lighting to the costumes it’s just so amazing and such a huge undertaking it’s hard to wrap my brain around the fact that they were able to achieve this absolutely spectacular feat.
